Publishing Update: Book Four

Surprise… I’m back!

First of all, let me apologize for not uploading any actual blog content in way too long. While the Meme Mondays are fun and easy uploads for me, I have not dedicated any time to blogging in months. I promise I have a good excuse reason for it…

The first draft of Salem Winters: Paranormal Problem Solver Volume Four is finally finished! And what an adventure/misadventure it has been, let me tell you…

I think this book has been the hardest and possibly the most rewarding in the series.

First, as always, I’ve had a lot of life to juggle while working on this story. Of course, that is to be expected, as there will always be things that come up.

Second, and the true reason why this has been such a difficult story to finish is that I lost the entire, nearly-completed manuscript. You read that right. The entire thing literally vanished from my computer. I can’t tell you why or what happened, but it was there one day and gone the next, which was completely devastating. So, I had to rewrite the entire story.

Now, the good news (and anyone who has been following my process for a while might remember this) is that I often write large chunks, if not the entire story, by hand first and then transcribe it later. For book four, I wrote about half by hand, and then typed the rest as it came to me, which is what I lost. So, when I sat down to start over, I at least had some idea as to where things had originally been heading. The GREAT news is that the rewrite forced me to reimagine the story, and I ended up liking the end product far more than I remember liking the version I lost.

So, silver lining!

Another thing that has made this volume so monumental to me is that I intend for this to be the last in the Salem Winters series (at least for now). So, as I move through another, and likely final, round of the publishing journey with this series, it feels bittersweet. I love these characters with all of my heart, and I am proud of myself for what I have created, so an enormous part of me is sad to say goodbye to them. But the other part of me is thrilled for the opportunity to move on to a new project (details to come in the future), with new characters to love and new havoc to wreak… I mean, a new story to tell 😁

Anyway, Volume Four is currently with my alpha reader. Once I get feedback from them, I’ll make changes, and it’ll be off to beta readers. I’ve said this in a previous post, but for me, the best part (after the writing itself) is finally being able to discuss the story with someone, and boy have I been dying to talk about this one! I am so looking forward to chatting with my alpha/beta readers.

As always, my love of the writing process perseveres! It’s tough sometimes (especially when you lose your entire manuscript 💀), but more often, it’s a beautiful, magical journey. And writing remains my life’s deepest passion.

Thank you all, as always, for being along for the ride as my writing adventure continues, and stay tuned for more updates… such as the tentative publication date! 😁
