Message to the Moon

Once upon a time, you peaked in through the windows and saw two lovers tangled peacefully together in the middle of a bed big enough for three. You and the girl were the only one’s awake in those moments, both of you silent observers – you observing her, her observing him. She loves him, and he has no idea the depths.

Now, you come in through the window and lay in the empty spot he once occupied, keeping the girl company in the lonely nights while she silently nurses a broken heart. You are the only one awake, a silent observer. You watch over her, and even in her sleep, she is grateful for you.

You hope that there will come a day when she won’t need anyone to fill the empty space in her bed, but for now, you will stay there with her – a streak across the bed, filling the empty space with soft light so she won’t be so alone.

And one day, she will write this message to you, thanking you for always being there.
