Quote of the Week

“Fall seven times, rise eight.” ―  Japanese proverb quoted in Ikigai, Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles

This proverb speaks to resilience, a trait I think is completely indispensable in living a good, happy life.

When life knocks you down, you only have two options: stay down and let life kick you while you’re down OR get back up and dust yourself off. Yes, it hurts when you get knocked down. Yes, you will probably get knocked down again. Yes, sometimes it feels easier to just stay down. But your happiness will inevitably suffer if you don’t get back up, if you don’t dust yourself off and keep going.

Each time you fall, you can learn and gain something… if you choose to look for it, if you choose to find the lessons and silver linings. You can rise stronger each time; and eventually, you may find yourself a little harder to knock down.

I hope that no matter how many times we fall, whether it’s seven or seven hundred times, we rise again.
