“The truth just wants to come flowing out. This is especially the case when you are trying to hide your sadness or vulnerability. It is much easier to conceal sadness from a stranger, or from someone you don’t trust.” ― Toshikazu Kawaguchi, Before the Coffee gets Cold
How often do we say “I’m fine” to a stranger who asks: “how are you?”, but when asked the same question by someone close to us, we at least consider answering truthfully? We are generally more inclined, sometimes compelled, to share our true feelings with people we feel close to because vulnerability and sadness – and truth in general – is a burden to hold inside, a burden to conceal from people.
So, I believe we should allow the truth to flow. Allow ourselves to show our sadness and vulnerability to those we trust. Allow ourselves to be human.
