“I love you,” You lie.
What do you get from lying about something as sacred as love?
Attention?
A moment of pleasure?
No.
The truth is those three words are a beautiful trap, ensnaring the victim in pretty dreams and empty promises. The truth is that by deploying those words, you are locking the victim in invisible shackles that bind them to you, and you are hiding the key in such an intricate way that being a captive may just be easier for them. And they don’t want to leave you anyway.
Until they do.
“I love you,” You lie as earnestly as you can muster.
You hope that those words will be enough to make them forget why they want to leave in the first place. You hope that the simple utterance of those words will dazzle them again and blind them to their leaving thoughts. And it does.
For a little while.
“I love you,” You continue to lie.
Each time you evoke those words, you are setting a new, more complex trap – one that becomes simultaneously more difficult and more painful for them to escape from.
Now, they have too much invested to walk away without pain.
Now, you have them right where you want them.
Now, you don’t have to be alone.
“I love you,” You lie with conviction.
Maybe if you keep repeating it, even you will believe it.
Then, it wouldn’t be a lie anymore, would it?
