Book Review: The Hound of Baskervilles

Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound of Baskervilles is one of the many Sherlock Holmes stories. Sherlock Holmes is arguably one – if not the – most famous detective (fictional or otherwise). Known for being highly analytical and intelligent, Sherlock Holmes is able to deduce things that others overlook.

Without spoilers, The Hound of Baskervilles follows the case of a family plagued by a curse that results in the death of at least two men. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are recruited to help clear up the mystery of whether the curse is more fact than fiction before the curse can claim the life of the next heir.

The Hound of Baskervilles is well-paced, keeping you engaged through the story (even during slower scenes). All of the clues, once tied together at the end, make complete sense; it does not leave the reader with any major questions. It has a wonderfully spooky atmosphere, and the world-building is phenomenal.

The Hound of Baskervilles was my first introduction to the written stories of Sherlock Holmes, but now that I have read one, I will definitely be reading more! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
