A Publishing Update: July 3rd, 2022

This just in: self-publishing takes a lot of time and MONEY!

Instead of an essay post today, I decided to provide a look into my self-publishing process, including where I am in said process.

Let me start by saying that I have been working on Salem Winters: Paranormal Problem Solvers Volume One for somewhere between six to nine months now – although, I can’t remember exactly when I first got the idea to start writing it. I spent three months actually writing the story, while the rest (and majority) of the time has been spent editing, having people beta read, editing again, taking a short break, and now more EDITING. (Honestly, with all of the time I have been spending on the editing process, I am so glad that I enjoy editing.)

So, at this point, I am working on what I am hoping will be my FINAL round of editing. It’s hard to consider a piece ever truly ‘ready’ or ‘done’, but if I hold onto it any longer, I will end up over-editing. And yes, it is possible to over-edit your work!

I am editing on Kindle Create since I will be publishing the novel through KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). This software is easy to use and has a very small learning curve. It also allows you to preview what the ebook will look like on different screen types as you work, which is very helpful for ironing out any formatting issues.

Forgive all of the blurred-out text, but NO SPOILERS 🙂

At the same time as this final round of edits, I have been building up my internet presence through this website – a BIG thank you if you are following me :). I am also working on setting up a social media page.

The last thing I wanted to touch on in this update is the timeline for publication. I originally intended to publish Volume One in August, but between purchasing ISBN numbers, barcodes, Copyright protection, and more, the cost for self-publishing has turned about to be a bit more than I had anticipated. So, while the novel is ready to be published I have pushed the publishing date for Salem Winters: Paranormal Problem Solver Volume One to October.

In the meantime, THANK YOU for following me and offering support through reading my content. And another huge THANK YOU for waiting patiently for the release of my novel.
